Van Morrison (born George Ivan Morrison, 1945) is a Northern Irish singer‑songwriter and multi‑instrumentalist whose work blends R&B, soul, Celtic folk, jazz and blues. Known for his distinctive, impassioned vocal delivery and poetic lyrics, he became a major influence on rock and soul music from the 1960s onward.
Them (featuring Van Morrison) was a Belfast rock/R&B band formed in 1964 that brought Morrison to prominence. Their raw, electrifying sound and Morrison’s intense vocals produced classics like “Gloria” and “Here Comes the Night,” helping define mid‑60s garage and blues‑rock. Morrison left Them in 1966 and launched a celebrated solo career, scoring enduring songs such as “Brown Eyed Girl” and landmark albums including Astral Weeks (1968) and Moondance (1970).
