Lester Young

Lester Young was an American jazz tenor saxophonist, clarinettist, trumpeter, violinist and drummer. He became a member of Count Basie’s Orchestra in the early 1930s and quickly rose to prominence whilst in the group. As a saxophonist, Young was one of the most influential players on his instrument. Young collaborated with artists such as Billie Holiday and Nat King Cole. He released fifteen solo albums between 1938 and 1958. Young’s musical influence has been far reaching with a direct influence on the young Charlie Parker and thus the entire be-bop movement.
