Duke Ellington was an American composer, pianist, band leader and although being a prominent figure in the history of jazz, his career stretched into numerous other genres, including blues, gospel, pop, classical and film scores. Recorded by Ella Fitzgerald and the Ink Spots, “I’m Beginning To See The Light” was one of the most successful popular songs of the 1940s and Ellington appeared on the cover of Time Magazine in 1956.
