Count Basie & Big Joe Turner

Acclaimed jazz bandleader Count Basie formed his own jazz orchestra in 1936 and led the group for almost 50 years. Musicians came to prominence under his direction, including the tenor saxophonist Lester Young and trumpeter Harry “Sweets” Edison. Blues shouter Big Joe Turner was a pioneer of rock and roll, whose career spanned 7 decades. He was the first artist to record the rock and roll classic “Shake, Rattle and Roll” in 1954, which went to No.1 on the US R&B Billboard chart. He had a string of Top 10 singles throughout the 1950s such as “Honey Hush” and “Flip Flop and Fly”.
