Nicknamed “Yardbird” or “Bird”, American jazz saxophonist and composer Charlie Parker was an iconic jazz musician, who was highly influential in the development of bebop. Miles Davis said, “You can tell the history of jazz in four words: Louis Armstrong. Charlie Parker.” He is also regarded as an icon for the Beat Generation, personifying the jazz musician as an artist or intellectual, not just an entertainer. He had four songs inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, alongside his Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
